Our trip to NZ
Biking across New Zealand for 5 months...

Leaving everything behind, looking for something new...but what? Are we searching for something? Why does somebody travel? Of course, to find out that home is the nicest place to be :-)) or to see more of this beautiful world. At some point in fall 2002 Anja and I realised that once Lara and Jona are at school it’ll be more difficult to travel around for more than 6 weeks in a row...a scary discovery! So, we thought: it’s now or never!

But where to go? And how? After having spent eleven years together and having gone on a number of trips we knew already what we liked: being outside, enjoying nature, meeting people and everything without haste and too many boundary conditions. Hiking across Corsica, with only a daypack in South America, by bike across Spain, Sicily or Germany or discovering Sweden with our 15 years-old VW-campervan...the options varied greatly.

However, traveling by bike has become our favourite way of travelling - the right speed to see enough but to cover some ground, too. So far, we have been using “ordinary” touring bikes but this time will be different: five months together with our kids on our beautiful “Pino”-Tandembikes to the other side of the world: to New Zealand!
